In this blog post, I’ll share some of our favorite tent camping spots where I’ve enjoyed spending time with family and friends. I’ve been camping all over Vermont for years, and these are the spots that always stand out in my mind as the best of the best.
In the beautiful city of Plymouth, Vermont, lies the charming Coolidge State Park. This park was named after America’s 30th president, Calvin Coolidge, and is a great place to explore the natural beauty. The Coolidge State Park offers visitors a chance to experience all that the nearby Calvin Coolidge State forest has to offer.
Many opportunities exist for hikers, mountain bikers, and anglers to explore the 1,300-acre park and go tent camping. Campers can also enjoy fishing streams and observing wildlife while spending time with friends.
With its scenic location on the West River, Jamaica State Park is situated on 772 acres of beautiful land. The park provides the perfect opportunity for outdoor enthusiasts to enjoy a variety of activities, including hiking, fishing, and picnicking. Many tent camping spots are also available here.
Jamaica State Park is a popular destination for visitors from all over, who come to enjoy the wonderful scenery and the chance to catch their dinner in the park’s slow-moving, shallow waters.
Additionally, the park is open for camping all year long, and campers can take advantage of the various activities the park has to offer, including swimming, boating, and mountain biking.
Dozens of campsites and RV sites are available for you, as well as 18 lean-to shelters in case of rain. Bathhouses with modern amenities are also available, ensuring that all guests have a comfortable stay overnight.
Don’t forget to visit Hamilton Falls while you’re visiting Jamaica State Park – it’s one of the most beautiful natural features in the park.
If you want to take your family on a camping trip then Limehurst Lake Campground is perfect for you. It is located in Williamstown, Vermont, and is close to Montpelier State Capitol. Limehurst Lake Campground offers everything you need for a comfortable and enjoyable camping experience, from complete amenities to modern tent and RV sites.
The Campground is the perfect place to bring your furry friend, with an onsite dog park and plenty of activities for them to enjoy. Also, you can take benefit from the free public access to the beach.
Wilgus State Park is a great place for tent camping, with the Connecticut River running through it. Spend your time going kayaking or canoeing on the Connecticut River. The Wilgus State Park campground has a total of 17 tent sites and 6 lean-to campsites that are situated along the scenic Connecticut River bank.
Also, there are 4 cabins available for rental that comes equipped with wifi connection. The expansion and development of the campground over the years have been impressive.
The Grand Isle State Park is situated on South Hero Island in picturesque Lake Champlain, making it a perfect day trip from Burlington. Grand Isle State Park was first started in 1959 when 54 acres of land were bought from Birchcliff resort. The park has expanded since then through three more acquisitions, and now boasts a size of 226 acres.
The park is packed with many different types of sites to choose from, so you’re sure to find the perfect spot for your RV or tent. With the 36 lean-to spots, 4 cabin lots, and 115 standard campsites with running water, the campground has plenty of options to choose from.
Plus, there are hot showers available for a small fee. But be sure to check if your vehicle can accommodate the lack of hookups before you book a spot.
You can visit Mt. Philo State Park to hike, picnic, or watch nature. You can hike ¾ miles to get to the top of mountains. Hikes in the Mt. Philo State Park will take you through wilderness areas that are filled with superior views. You might get a chance to see white-tail deer, moose, and other wildlife on your hiking. If you are not comfortable hiking for ¾ miles, then you can go by car.
You can see the natural views when driving into this park during autumn. The birds migrating to their winter homes is a great sight to see. On the north side of the park, there is a small campground but RVs are not preferred due to the steep grade and narrow width of roadways.
The Abel Mountain Campground is a great choice for those looking for a campsite that is both secluded and close to amenities. The campground offers 131 sites equipped with water/electricity or sewer, and 270 acres of space.
The Abel Mountain Campground is a family-friendly space that has been enjoyed by outdoor enthusiasts since 1968. Sally and Gordon Abel originally opened the campground and it has since become a popular destination for those looking to explore all the park has to offer.
The Brighton state park is a great place to explore Vermont’s remote areas. You should once visit Brighton State Park which is situated on the shores of Island Pond and surrounded by mountains with tree-covered slopes. This place offers an unforgettable experience with its fast-running streams and clear lakes.
The location of the campground on 102-acre Spectacle Pond makes for a mostly undeveloped and natural experience, with day-use beaches and bathhouses only a short half mile away. Interpretive programs offered by the park rangers and nature center include hikes, campfires, nature crafts, and games.
The must-visit Button Bay State Park has scenic views of Lake Champlain that make for perfect photo opportunities. It is sprawled over 253 acres which includes various activities such as hiking, swimming, fishing, and picnicking.
To see Button Bay State Park is to see a piece of history. The park has been visited by many famous people, including Ben Franklin and Ethan Allen. The Button Bay State Park is named for its button-like concretions, which are formed from clay deposits on the ocean floor.
If you want to experience the overnight great outdoors, then Kampfires Campground is the best tent camping in Vermont, USA. I am sure you will find the accommodations to your liking, no matter if you are staying in an RV or a pop-up tent.
The RV sites at Kampfires Campground can accommodate RVs up to 75 feet long, making it a great option for those traveling with larger vehicles. The campground also features day-use picnic areas and fire rings, providing visitors with everything they need to enjoy their time in nature.
Kettle Pond State Park located in Groton Forest is a hidden gem that offers seven other state parks nearby the city of Marshfield.
The Kettle Pond State Park is home to many rocky hillsides that were once used by logging companies for centuries. These hillsides are now covered in native plants and trees, including white pine trees and hemlock ones, waiting to be discovered by you.
Moreover, the park has a campground that provides 26 lean-to sites that are grouped into five campsites. The campground does not have running water, so be sure to bring enough supplies for your stay and if you are having a night stay, the site has a compost toilet for you.
Vermont’s Little River State Park is a scenic park that borders the 850-acre Waterbury Reservoir. In Little River State Park, there are 81 tent and RV sites available for visitors, so you can spend your vacation in the park in whichever way suits you best.
The campsites are only available to those who get there first and have the appropriate permits, so tent camping here isn’t for just everyone. The restrooms are also equipped with flush toilets and hot and cold showers. There are 4 restrooms in total, 3 of which have coin-operated showers.
Whether you’re looking for a place to get away from it all or want to be close to the action, Vermont has something for everyone when it comes to tent camping. With plenty of state parks and forests, as well as campgrounds and RV parks, there are plenty of places to set up your tent and enjoy everything that nature has to offer.
