If you’re heading to Folly Beach this summer, it’s important to be aware of the rules and regulations that are in place. These strict rules are made to keep you safe and protect the beach environment.

  1. From 1st May to 30th September, dogs are not allowed to enter the beach between 10am-6pm under strict no dog policy by the Beach management. Other than between these hours, it is important to keep your dog on a leash at all times. This is to protect the natural beauty of the beach and to ensure that everyone can enjoy their time on the beach.
  2. Open Fires are also not permitted on the beach at any time and If you’re caught with an open fire on the beach, you could be fined.
  3. The sand dunes are a protected area on the beach and it’s important to stay off them. However, you can use the public walkovers that are located at every block to access the beach.
  4. Swim with caution as there are strong currents.
  5. Also, take your trash with you before leaving the beach and put it in the bins that are provided.
  6. Camping is not allowed on Folly Beach.
  7. Sea turtles are protected by law and it is against the rules to interfere with them but If you spot an adult sea turtle or hatching, please call 843-588-2433.
  8. In order to protect the environment, please do not bring any plastic bags or other materials that will pollute the environment to the beach.
  9. Alcohol consumption and smoking are strictly banned by the authorities of the beach.

Parking Rules

  1. All 4 tyres must be off the pavement and 3 feet away from the white line on both sides of the vehicle.
  2. Blocking driveways or crosswalks is not allowed.
  3. You must park in the direction of traffic.
  4. Parking on the sidewalk is illegal and you may be ticketed.
  5. Parking in ADA accessible spaces without the proper permit or tag is not allowed.
  6. No parking is allowed on the yellow curbstones.

Golf Cart Rules

  1. The golf cart is required to have the appropriate stickers to be driven on Folly Beach. The public safety department can issue these, so please get one from them before driving your golf cart around town. Grab the application for stickers by Clicking here.
  2. Also, please remember that golf carts are not allowed on Center Street or Folly Road. The golf cart can only be driven four miles from the address shown on SCDMV records.
  3. You must be at least 16 years old and have a valid driver’s license to operate a golf cart on Folly Beach. The golf cart should be registered with the SCDMV, and you must have general liability insurance coverage.
  4. You are not allowed to drive a golf cart at night, rain or when visibility is limited. So please check the weather conditions before you go out driving with your lights off.
  5. Visitors are prohibited from bringing golf carts onto the island temporarily. Only residents who have a permanent address on Folly Beach are allowed to register their golf carts.
