Are Canopies Allowed on Cherry Grove Beach, SC? Beach Rules & Regulations: Summary

Rules and Regulations of Cherry Grove Beach, SC

As a responsible beachgoer, I am always aware of the rules and regulations that must be followed while at the beach. For those who are not familiar with these rules, I have compiled a list of the most important ones to keep in mind while visiting the little slice of paradise.

Beach Tents

There were several accidents and issues with overcrowding due to visitors using large tents on Cherry Grove Beach, so the town of North Myrtle Beach voted to ban them in 2014.

Currently, the large canopy tents, cabanas, and affixed beach shading are not allowed on the beach, but visitors are still able to use umbrellas. Kindly be thoughtful of other visitors around you, and follow all safety guidelines while enjoying your vacation. Keep in mind that the umbrellas must be under 7 feet tall.

However, many families still come to the beach with their toddlers and babies, so small tents are still allowed.

Pet Instruction

Before you head out to Cherry Grove on your vacation, make sure to look into the pet policy for the rental property you’ll be staying at. Many condos allow pets of all shapes and sizes, however, some have restrictions on what types of animals are allowed due to their rulebook policies.

By ensuring that your pet is allowed at the property, you can avoid any stressful surprises.

There might be small pet fees associated with bringing your animal into the rental, so it’s always best to be prepared with cash or a check on hand. It is because many rental companies require this type of fee in order to help keep the property clean and free of pet hair for future guests.

If your animal does happen to leave some fur behind, don’t worry! The cleaners will take care of it before the next group arrives. The last time when I stayed at a rental with my dog, there was a small pet fee that I was unaware of. But now you know, so you can be prepared!

Beach timings for pets

Cherry Grove Beach is a great place to bring your pet, but be sure to know the schedule of when they are allowed during peak season! From May 15th to September 15th, you can come with your pet before 9 AM and after 5 PM. If you want to bring your pet during those times, they must be leashed.

It is essential to keep your pet on a leash that is no more than 7 feet long. By doing so, you can help keep everyone safe while still enjoying your time in Cherry Grove Beach.

Information about nearby Dog parks

If you don’t want to worry about your dog running off, there are two fenced-in dog parks in North Myrtle Beach park that are perfect for letting them play without a leash.

There are 2 different parks, one for small breeds (under 25 pounds) and another for large breeds (25+ pounds), so your dog can socialize with other dogs their own size. Both parks are located 10 minutes from the main Cherry Grove entrance on Highway 9.

Fireworks On Beach

In Cherry Grove Beach, it is illegal to use fireworks on the beach due to the noise and smoke potentially startling nearby people. Police officers patrol the area during high traffic weeks and will ticket violators on sight.

Tips For Safe Fireworks Use

However, you are allowed to use sparklers on the beach as long as there is no danger involved in their usage. But if you want to use big fireworks, it’s best to go to an open space away from the beach.

Alcohol/Beer Bottles

Cherry Grove Beach is committed to providing a safe and family-friendly atmosphere, and as such, alcohol is not allowed on site. Therefore, you can visit the beach with your children without worrying about them.

On my last visit, I noticed that some visitors had brought their drinks in water bottles. However, I would not recommend this as it could potentially draw the attention of law enforcement.

Golf Carts

Golf carts are a great way to get around Cherry Grove Beach! You can use them to visit the beach, go shopping, or just get around town. Keep your necessary documents ready before taking off, so you don’t get any tickets. There are some rules you need to meet before you can operate a golf cart on the beach.

  • Visit the South Carolina DMV to get your permit sticker, which is required to be displayed on the golf cart.
  • A licensed driver is mandatory.
  • Be sure to only drive your golf cart on secondary roads and avoid Highway 17 or 9.
  • You may cross or pass over Highway 9, 17 & Sea Mountain Highway.
  • You can only drive during the daytime.

Cherry Grove Beach Canopy Tent Rules: Conclusion

As of right now, canopies are not allowed on Cherry Grove Beach. But you can bring your own beach umbrellas and it should not be more than 7 feet to keep everyone safe. If you are coming with a baby, you can also bring a baby small tent that is meant for the beach. However, the Town of North Myrtle Beach is always looking for ways to improve the beach and make it a more enjoyable place for residents and visitors alike.
